Vote “YES” on SJR102 in the November 8th General Election

According to Idaho law, the Idaho Legislative session starts early-January and typically ends April. That’s 3 months for legislators to handle the business of the state. After that they travel home, throw on their comfy cardigans, and their slip-ons. Nobody really knows what they do out-of-session, but this is my best guess.

There is a problem with this though.

If pressing issues arise when legislators are out-of-session (as we saw with vaccine mandates last year) the legislature can’t convene itself due to current language in The Idaho Constitution. The only person that has state power to call the Idaho legislature down to Boise for an extraordinary session is the Idaho Governor.1

Actually, since March 2020 Governor Brad Little has called several extraordinary sessions. But we all know that when the enemy chooses the time+place then you’ve already lost the fight. These sessions never amounted to much.

This brings us to SJR102

SJR102 will amend Idaho’s Constitution to allow the legislature to call itself into session without the direction of the Governor.

“[SJR102] gives our legislature the ability to act as an equal branch of government during times of extraordinary circumstance.” – Bonner County Chairman Scott Herndon2

SJR102SOP

By law, any amendments to the Idaho Constitution are required to go on a General Election ballot and the question put to the people of Idaho.3 KOOTENAI RGMT encourages everyone to pray, and consider voting “YES” on SJR102 this November 8th.
