Young, Restless, and Retarded. A Small Portrait of White Boy Summer in the Local Church.
Introduction
Recently, in a Telegram Group full of Christian men I shared one of Doug Wilson’s posts on X/Twitter.
One guy (let's call him WBS#1) who had been a lurker up until that point responded by saying that he felt Doug was wasting his time on "Right wing internet trolls". Essentially, WBS#1 is bothered that Doug Wilson continues to give the issue airtime.
Du hasst? Du hasst mich?
One of the major issues that the CREC denomination has been dealing with is the specific issue of these white & bothered folks (my own coinage) folding into the ranks of the denomination. In fact, when Wilson isn't talking about having lots of babies on Twitter, he's spending the rest of his time providing corrective teaching on what it actually means to be a Christian Nationalist.
As the conversation unfolded with WBS#1, another Christian fellow named WBS#2 jumped into the fray to defend WBS#1. Whenever I would ask pointed questions to understand them, I would get clear-as-milk-runnier-than-water answers. Oblique, contradictory, and lengthy answers.
Several times they would accuse me of making a personal attack on them, call foul, and assume victimhood (this literary tool is called, allusion). Case in point: Since WBS#1 asserted that Doug Wilson was blowing the issue out of proportion, I shared the image below, and asked: "What are your thoughts of this image?"
WBS#1 became offended that I was, in his mind, setting up a rhetorical trap for him to fall into. I wasn't. The image below is something that hits close to home for the CREC denomination.
The phrase "Blood and Soil" is the English translation of the German phrase, "Blut und Boden". It was one of the popular slogans the Nationalsozialistische party (yep, Nazis!) used to rally the country Post-WWI and during WWII. After it was discovered that a CREC church member tweeted it, the situation unraveled into a small "s" scandal on Twitter with conservative lightweight, Blake Callens (@blakecallens), leading the charge.
Sure, one has the freedom to share images like this but – one also has to be ready for the fallout once the public realizes you're channeling the Nazi Party (also, J.Crew Enjoyer versus BIPOC Tracksuit Man?). The issue has since resolved itself but the point stands: Doug Wilson isn't just yelling at the sky when he talks about WBS/fed bois.
Questions & Schmanswers
This interaction between WBS#1 and WBS#2 took place over 3 whole days with a furious digital interchange of questions, accusations, and recriminations between a dozen Christian men chiming in with their own thoughts. Things went on, and on like this as though we were playing tag around a small clown car.
Towards the end it became obvious that the quality of the conversation had devolved beyond repair after personal attacks were leveled; namely when:
- WBS#1 disagreed with a mixed-race marriage of an individual that he was interacting with.
- WBS#2 admitted he was an ethno-nationalist.
- WBS#1 and #2 argued that I, yours truly, should be repatriated back to Vietnam because they actually believe that America is Whites-only.
Wild.
It's hard to discern what their ground-level assertions are, but I will try here:
- White people are a distinct race in, and of itself.
- It's natural that White people want to be around White people.
- There needs to be deliberate, downward pressure from who-knows-what to enforce this homeostasis in society.
The real kicker is that WBS#2 argued that his ideas didn't grate against Biblical doctrine, or that anyone should take any offense. For he is a lowly Aryan Philosopher-King imparting his deep, dark sayings (Psalm 78:2) to us as best as he can.
Question & Answers
- White people are a distinct race in, and of itself. If we choose to stop at an arbitrary genetic trait like skin color, why not choose a genetic trait that has the potential to unify all of us: eyeballs. Kidding aside. Adam was the First Man (1 Corinthians 15:45). All of mankind descends from a single race. Any questions or comments?
- It's natural that White people want to be around White people. The pagans say, "birds of a feather flock together", but as Christians we ought to love dwelling amongst the brotherhood (Psalm 133:1) across whatever social classes that separate us (Galatians 3:28). Here, you will need to make the decision to be Pagan or Christian.
- There needs to be deliberate, downward pressure from who-knows-what to enforce this homeostasis in society. WBS#1 and #2 espoused grandiose notions about different races in society & culture. As far as I could tell, they assume that the Government plays a part in enforcing homogeneous Whiteness in America. There is no way that the Republican ideals of Limited Government can be pursued if a pogrom like this were to take place.¹
Conclusion
Scripture speaks with finality on the issue of where mankind descended from (1 Corinthians 15:45) along with prejudices between classes of people (Galatians 3:28). I'm convinced that Christians that believe in these ideologies are either stupid or malicious (See: Hanlon's Razor).
After interacting with these people, I am also convinced that these ideologies come straight from the devil. They are anti-Logos, anti-Great Commission, and anti-Christ. Those that espouse these ideologies should be subjected to discipline by the Church according to Matthew 18:15-20 lest the Church lose its witness to the world.
Get behind me, Satan.
